Fur Babies
Creating custom portraits is one of my favourite things to do as an artist. Working with my clients to find the best expression of their beloved pet is a rewarding and emotional experience for me. If you are interested in having a portrait done of your fur family please don’t hesitate to reach out.

People
Painting people is a little more complex than our furry family, but just as rewarding. Here are some of the most common questions I get asked about having a commission done. Below that are examples of some of my favourite commissioned paintings.

Not necessarily. While some painters, usually abstract painters, price per square inch, painting small details on figures is more complicated and time consuming. Painting on a larger surface with bigger strokes is easier to capture the many details needed for a close likeness and personality.
Pricing varies depending on how many figures are in your painting. My standard rates are based on 1 figure and there is an additional cost for every other figure. Standard rate also includes a simple background. I tend to keep the backgrounds fairly basic, so to ensure that the figure is the most important component, but some background elements may be important. If you would like a more complicated setting for your figure, with specific props or items these can be included at a negotiated rate.
Finding the right photo is key to a great portrait. Sometimes a great photo will not make a great painting. Once we begin discussions we will work together to find the best photo. Here are some tips in what you are looking for;
good quality resolution - having a higher quality photo allows me to zoom into tiny details which really help with likeness and personality
Interesting lighting - having light AND shadow present in the photo is important. This is how as a painting we will understand depth (making it 3D) Photos without any shadows are hard to make feel real.
Tons of personality! - You want to find a photo that really captures your loved ones personality and makes you feel happy.
Each process is different but generally a few months after drawing. Once we begin discussion we will work together to find the best photo. Then we will discuss shape and size of painting. I will make a very detailed drawing and send to you for feedback. We will work together on any adjustments that need to be made and discuss backgrounds. At this point 50% of the painting is due and is non-refundable. It will take a few months to complete, but I will be in contact along the way to let you know how it’s going. The final 50% is due upon delivery. HST is applicable.
